Tom Jenkins was looking for the good of all people

                                  Way down deep down inside

Tom Jenkins was just taking a slow (literally) drive back to his parents past. He left Interstate 65 around Georgiana, heading north west on little farm to market roads, county roads

and little trails. He was looking for something that he thought was long gone in this country.

His parents had lived all of their lives as young people in a now long gone hamlet called Goodshoe. In the early 1800’s a blacksmith and cobbler, from South Carolina, set up shop

in a fork in the road that in that day until the early 1950’s was highly traveled. They called their shop Goodshoe. They first, with the help of some of Creek Indians from a settlement

nearby, felled trees and cleared a site large enough for their shop and two houses for their families that were still in South Carolina, awaiting word to start their journey to join their men.

The little hamlet never had more than 1,000 people at its peak in the 1940’s during World War II. In fact it was about 1946, when the baby-boomers birthing began to hit America

and all of the returning service personnel either hooked up with their high school sweethearts or brought a “Mrs.” home to Mom, Dad and good ole’ Goodshoe.

David Spencer Becomes The Earth’s Representative at First Contact

David Spencer was settled into his study in the rear of his home, watching TV and idly writing on his computer.  Suddenly, two men in colorful flowing robes appeared before him.  He had

watched the various versions of Star Trek.  And he recognized the end of a “transport” as they appeared.  In addition, he immediately recognized them as the fictional species “Vulcan”.

Nevertheless, here they were; very much alive and standing there before him.  They were not fictional and their mode of travel to his study was very real, because here they were.

However, why were they there?  David considered himself a “nobody” as to being visited by globally known individuals.  In addition, these men seem to be men of peace and not wielding

super overwhelming force to invade or conquer.  To be a “first contact”, who was David Spencer to be the subject of a “first contact”, he thought.   Should they not be at the White House,

10 Downey St. or some other national capitol?

The first words spoken by his guests shocked David. It was perfect English.  Of course, he had been in a state of shock for the past 3 or 4 minutes.  The first known words spoken by an

alien species to a human were “Do not be afraid, we mean you no harm and come in peace.”  This only slightly lessened David’s shock and bewilderment.

Although David knew that this was a meeting of unique and historic importance, he was at a lost as to how to proceed.  David was a former protestant minister.  But he had changed to the

Catholic Church.  He thought he had his theology straightened out.  But these two guests in his study could and were giving him cold chills as he thought about his belief system.  They seemed

to have sensed this.  One of them said, “You are concerned about God and how your species is not alone in His creation.”  He continued, “Let me assure you, we know the same God and

are part of His creation.  We also know  of His Son, and His Spirit.”  As David began to feel a little more comfortable, the second visitor said, “We have churches, priests and preachers as

you do.”

David has the uncomfortable feeling that these two aliens can read his mind.  He asks, “Can you tell what I am thinking?”  Now the visitors identified themselves.  The one that had done most

of the talking identified himself as Temrick.  As the Governor of the largest District on Vulcan; he had been asked by the President of Supreme Council to be in the “First Contact” that would

eventually be the contact to bring Earth into the Universal League. The second visitor was Dr. Tamarack the President of the Vulcan Science Council.  Dr. Tamarack fielded the question

about reading David’s mind.  “Without being too technical, we can read body movements and emotions.  However, we do have the concept of the mind meld.  It is true that we can

exchange thoughts, but the persons involved, both have to be in agreement.   We cannot steal thoughts.  Additionally, we have a machine that can implant knowledge.  Moreover, if you agree

we hope to let you try it.  That is why we are here.  We want to see if you are the man we think you are.”  This puzzled David.  “What do you mean by that? He asked.  “You will see Dr.

Tamarack responded.”  David looked stunned.  “You are asking me to trust two, pardon me, aliens that appear in my study and let you put me in or have a machine put on me; to monkey

with my intellect.”
